Hamas expects increase in Israel's aggression

Hamas has blasted Israel's decision to refuse to open Gaza's border crossing until captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit is released.

The Islamic movement also termed the decision as "a knife in the back of Egypt" which has been brokering a long-term truce agreement between the two sides, Haaretz reported.

Ismail Radwan, a Hamas spokesman in the Gaza Strip said that after Wednesday's decision by the Israeli cabinet, the movement is expecting that Israel would increase its attacks against the populated sliver.

"We won't stand around doing nothing in the face of Israeli aggression," he added.

Fawzi Barhoum, another Hamas spokesman also said that, "there is no link between the two issues. Israel is being hard-headed and is piling up hindrances and erecting obstacles in the path of the Egyptian efforts."

The Israeli cabinet announced on Wednesday that, "it would be inconceivable" for Israel to accept a ceasefire agreement calling for the opening of Gaza's border crossings unless Shalit is released.

Shalit was captured by Palestinian fighters during a cross border operation in 2006. Hamas says the Israeli captive will be freed only if Israel releases hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
