Israel's blockade of cash flows into the besieged Gaza Strip is affecting banks, which regularly lack money to respond to the needs of the people.
Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad urged Israel on Tuesday to allow cash into the Gaza Strip to ease the territory's liquidity crisis.
"We are trying to get cash in, but Israeli authorities haven't authorized it so far," Fayyad told journalists in the West Bank town of Ramallah, and added that because of the liquidity crisis, Gaza banks have limited withdrawals to 800 shekels (USD 200, 155 euros) a day per person.
The blockade was first imposed by Israel on June 27, 2007, but the crisis has worsened since Israel launched a military attack on Hamas on December 27, culminating in a ceasefire on January 18.
