The armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement identified him as Sami Fatuh, one of its resistance fighters. An Israeli military spokesman said he was not aware of any raids but that Palestinian fighters had fired five rockets into Israel, all of which landed on open ground without causing any casualties or damage.
Medical official Dr. Moawiya Hassanain and Islamic Jihad spokesman Abu Ahmed said the two casualties belonged to the Al-Quds Brigades - the military wing of the Islamic Jihad - and conceded that the men had been firing rockets at Israel when they were targeted.
