Iraq has urged other countries to find a place for the members of Mujahedin-e-Khalq group (MKO) who have been based in the country for about two decades.
"We do not wish to take responsibility for the sin of the presence of a terrorist organization in Iraq, which causes us domestic problems and problems with countries of the region," Iraqi government spokesman, Ali al-Dabbagh, told Reuters on Thursday.
"We ask the international community ... to find another place for them other than Iraq," he added.
The Iraqi government has vowed to expel MKO members to their native country, Iran, or send them to a third country, maintaining 'staying in Iraq is not an option for them'.
Iran has long called for the expulsion of MKO members from their headquarters and training center, Camp Ashraf, in Iraq.
Tehran says the members of the group who do not have blood on their hands are allowed to return home but others have to stand trial in Iran.
Several members of the group have now defected from the organization and returned to Iran.
The MKO, blacklisted as a terrorist organization by many international entities and countries including the US, is responsible for numerous acts of violence against Iranian civilians and government officials as well as Iraqi people under former dictator Saddam Hussein.
