Hamas will demand the right to choose the prime minister and a majority of seats in the future national unity government with Fatah.
Mushir al-Masri, a Hamas official said on Wednesday that the results of the 2006 parliamentary election in which the movement won a landslide victory, must be the basis for the formation of the national unity government.
According to the official, Hamas should be allowed to form government and choose the prime minister.
"Such democracy must be the base upon which any new Palestinian government can be formed," Masri said.
Hamas also rejected the idea of forming a unity government headed by Salam Fayyad who was elected by Palestinian Authority acting chief Mahmoud Abbas after he dismissed the government of Ismail Haniya in 2007.
"We will never accept Fayyad not only because he committed crimes against the Palestinian people and against resistance in the West Bank but also because Fatah and Abbas cannot legally nominate the candidate" Youssef Rizqa, the political adviser to Haniya said in a statement.
Fatah and Hamas have recently resumed their reconciliation talks to reach a formula for the national unity government.
