Tue, 10 Mar 2009 08:55:57 GMT

Former Iranian lawmaker Akbar Alami wants to run in the upcoming presidential election.
Former Iranian lawmaker Akbar Alami has announced his bid to run in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for June 12.

Alami, a lawmaker at the 6th Majlis, told reporters on Tuesday that he had decided to enter the race for the 10th presidency on the Reformist platform.

Former president Mohammad Khatami and former parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi are the other Reformists who have officially announced their bid to contest the presidency.

While the Principlist camp has yet to nominate a candidate, speculations are running high that the incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will join the race.
