Referring to Israeli achievements in the Gaza offensive, the Israeli Foreign Minister claimed that halting rocket firings from Gaza was among the goals that Israel achieved in its offensive on the Gaza Strip, according Israel news website Haaretz.
"Now the firing has stopped" and “We could hit Hamas with another military blow. The smuggling of weapons into Gaza is the same as firing [rockets] onto Israel".

Livni's remarks about the regime's capability to halt rocket attacks comes as Palestinian groups kept firing missiles into Israel hours before Hamas issued a ceasefire.
According to Israeli media reports Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak , prior to Israel's declaration of the unilateral ceasefire, differed with Premier Ehud Olmert who insisted the offensive should go on.
The two officials argued that expanding the operation and occupying Gaza would require a lengthy deployment -- possibly up to a year and would only bring operational complications and more Israeli casualties.
Israel fought a three-week long war against Hamas allegedly to destroy the movement's military power. It launched hundreds of attacks on several tunnels and homes in the southern Gaza Strip "to destroy the tunnels through which Hamas brings arms into the region".
Hamas says that as a democratically elected government it is entitled to have weapons in order to “defend” Palestinians against their enemy.
"No one has the right to prevent the Palestinians from equipping themselves with weapons as long as the occupation continues," Hamas representative Osama Hamdan said in Lebanon.
Earlier Obu Obeida, a spokesman for the Hamas military wing Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades said that armed to the teeth Israeli military used modern US-made weapons against the civilians during the Gaza war, while we had to defend our land just with light hand-made weapons, with no tanks and warplanes.
"Bringing arms into Gaza is not smuggling. The natural situation would be for all Arab and Muslim countries, along with the rest of the free world, to formally allow weapons into the Strip," he concluded.
