An exhibition has been held at the National Museum in Damascus, depicting the suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip caused by Israel.

The exhibition was called Remembering Gaza and was organized by the European-Arab center in Syria, Press TV correspondent in Damascus Samer Dadaa reported Wednesday.

A number of Palestinian, Arab and non-Arab artists from all over the world took part in the event.

"We want to show through these photographs the ugliness of Israeli forces' aggression against children, women and the elderly. And also show Israel's destruction of the Palestinian infrastructure, which violates all international conventions," said Roula Mustapha, a lawyer who participated in the fair.

"Organizing this Exhibition aims to illustrate the massacre committed by Israeli war criminals and to keep them in the memory of the Arab people," said Khaled Katta, a caricaturist.

A legal seminar was organized and held simultaneously concerning the crimes and massacres perpetrated by Israeli forces on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

"We are trying to study an exposed illegal alternative, to take Israeli war criminals to trial at The Hague. Their acts in Gaza are war crimes," said Ibrahim Drraji, a professor at the University of Damascus.

Experts who participated spoke about the continuing tragedy of the oppressed Palestinians in Gaza and the heinous Israeli crimes against defenseless Palestinian civilians.

"For me, it is incomprehensible that anything like this could happen today and that people could stand by and watch it and wait and wait and wait until more than a thousand people have been killed for no good reason," said Jenny Thorsborne, who attended the event.

Participants called on the international community to bring Israeli war criminals to trial in the International Criminal Court at The Hague for their aggressions against the Palestinians in Gaza.

Tel Aviv launched a military campaign against the Gaza Strip on December 27 with the aim of eliminating Hamas, the democratically-elected government of the coastal region.

At least 1,340 Palestinians were killed and 5,320 others were wounded during the conflict, according to Press TV correspondents in Gaza.

Israel has put the number of its soldiers killed at 13 while Hamas says it has killed at least 80 Israeli soldiers.

The conflict drew international criticism due to the number of civilians killed in Israeli attacks on the populated region. At least 1,00 Gazan civilians were killed.
