Qaddafi says Mideast cure lies in 'Isratine'

Thu, 22 Jan 2009 17:04:38 GMT | PressTV

Qaddafi believes Israelis and Palestinians can end their hostilities by coexisting in a single state called 'Isratine'.
Israelis and Palestinians can put an end to their ongoing conflict by trying to coexist in a unified state, says the leader of Libya.

The solution is "one state for all, an 'Isratine'," Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi wrote in an article.

This "would allow the people in each party to feel that they live in all of the disputed land and they are not deprived of any one part of it," reads the piece which was first published Thursday in New York Times.

Qaddafi first came up with the proposal in 2003, saying that a two-state solution would not produce the desired results.

Hamas, the democratically-elected ruler of Palestinian territories, accepts a two-state solution but refuses to recognize Israel.

Qaddafi insists, however, that any other alternative would guarantee a "perpetual war".

The Libyan official was among a handful of world leaders who strongly opposed Israel's Operation Cast Lead.

1,330 Palestinians were killed and 5,450 others were wounded in the Israeli operations that began on December 27. Although the Israel-waged war formally ended on January 18, Tel Aviv has since targeted civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Earlier in the month, Qaddafi urged the Arab world to volunteer and fight alongside Palestinians against Israel.
