Citing Israeli officials, the daily Haaretz reported Friday that Tel Aviv would continue strikes on the populated territory after violating a unilateral ceasefire it declared on a three-week long offensive in the tiny sliver.
After failing to achieve its primary goals against the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip, Tel Aviv stopped Operation Cast Lead while repeatedly threatening to re-launch it, should Hamas continue to rearm its fighters.
The fragile January18th ceasefire was eventually broken after the Israeli warplanes carried out a strike on the strip to retaliate the death of an Israeli soldier killed in an explosion at the Kissufim crossing. The air raid killed a Palestinian farmer in the border region.
Eighteen more people, including 11 school children were also wounded earlier Thursday, after the warplanes bombed several targets in southern strip.
The Israeli military claimed the attacks had targeted a weapon production site, in response to Wednesday's rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.
Israel launched operation Cast Lead to destroy Hamas's power to fire rockets at Israeli towns. Hamas however resumed the attacks after Tel Aviv renewed its strikes on the strip.
