Jalili (R) meets Kuwait's Al- Sabah |
Presence of the US forces in the region poses a serious threat to security of regional countries, a top Iran's security official has said.
"The eight Persian Gulf littoral states [Iran, Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq] are quite capable of establishing peace, stability and friendship in the region, and therefore the presence of foreign forces is redundant," Saeed Jalili told visiting Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Salem Al-Sabah on Wednesday.

He pointed out that the region needs security more than ever.
At the same time that US President George W. Bush was touring the Middle East to seemingly build up an Arab front against the Islamic Republic, the Kuwaiti foreign minister visited Tehran to discuss ways to expand ties with Iran.
Jalili said it's no coincidence that after Bush's visit to the occupied territories Israel has escalated its attacks on Palestinians.
"The American public is also tired of the US presence and its acts of violence in the region," Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) added.
The Kuwaiti official praised Iran's positive role in providing security in neighboring Iraq.
Sheikh Mohammad Al-Salem Al-Sabah also said the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent visit to Qatar was a giant step toward the promotion of ties between Iran and Arab countries.
Ahmadinejad attended the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council meeting in Qatar in December 2007, during which he held talks with Arab leaders and put forward proposals that could enhance ties between regional countries.
