Egyptian authorities are questioning more than forty people suspected of smuggling weapons into Gaza.
The alleged smugglers from Egypt, Lebanon, and Palestine were suspected of having bought or rented homes in the border town of Rafah where they smuggled in the weapons, an Egyptian lawyer for some of the detainees was reported as saying.
Montassar el-Zayat, who has often represented jailed Islamists, said on Tuesday that he and other lawyers were prevented from meeting with the detainees.
He also stated that the families of the detainees told him that the police were questioning those in remand about a Lebanese man whom security officials suspect of being a representative of Hezbollah.
El-Zayat added that so far no charges have been brought against the men.
